Hello again and surprisingly sooner than I thought.
I was going to talk about something else in this, something completely different but
next week end some extraordinary women, Burdekin women to be exact are creating
a very special couple of days in Ayr, the place where they live. This is early days for me but I wish this
blog was well established so that more people could read about these wonderful
ladies, and wonderful they are in themselves and what they have taken it upon
themselves to do.
This comes directly from their website:
Welcome to the Burdekin Readers and Writers Website and the Ignite the Mind Writers Festival.
“Mighty oaks from little acorns grow” and this could well be said of the first Burdekin Readers’ & Writers’ Festival to be held on Friday & Saturday, July 17th & 18th, 2015 in the Burdekin Library and Burdekin Theatre complex, now known as the Community Hub.
A small group of amateur writers known as Pen Pushers began meeting in Ayr in 2013. Having experienced Writers’ Festivals and Writers’ Workshops in other cities and towns, they felt it would be wonderful to offer to their community and neighbouring communities the opportunity to experience something similar. And so “Ignite Your Mind” Burdekin Readers’ & Writers’ Festival was born.
The aims of the committee are to conduct an entertaining and enjoyable cultural event and to offer readers the chance to meet and chat with authors and for writers the opportunity to improve their skills by working with published authors. Wow, how great are these people to create this experience for us up North so far away from the hub of the writing world, but are we when group like the above exist. I am hoping to get there but work may interfere and if it does I am going to be quite upset. What a task to take on and I don't know about you but I want to know more so I have included a link for those of you that agree. Just click on the highlighted word to go straight to their website for more . For now I wish them luck but I am pretty sure they are going to rock it in. Ciao Barb
